Why Undertake a Flooring Project?
· Resurface deteriorated flooring and high traffic areas. · Compliance with USDA and FDA regulations. · Safety issues—reduces slip/fall probability. · Improve facility cleanliness , enhance housekeeping, reduce concrete dusting. · Reduce damage to lift trucks and finished goods. · Improve employee moral. |
Which Products Are Right For My Floor?
· The “right floor system” is determined by the flooring environment, condition, needs, usage and budget. · Different floor systems utilized in different areas in most facilities. · An analysis evaluates such variables as heavy-to-light foot traffic, steel wheel traffic, vehicle traffic, forklifts with heavy loads, chemical exposure or impact from floor surface abuse, moisture and/or mildew concerns, etc. |
What’s the Most Important Factor in Installing a New Floor System?
· Substrate preparation is mandatory for proper installation. · Substrate condition reflects past and/or present usage characteristics, as well as environmental issues. · Use the best (available only at Federal) products and the right flooring system based on usage and environmental needs and requirements. · Test for possible breach of moisture/vapor passing through concrete. |
What About Follow-up Services?
· Federal inspects every project for strict adherence to stringent installation standards. · Annual floor evaluations are recommended for proper maintenance. · Repair kits and products for touch-up are available. |
How Is a Floor Prepared For a New Installation?
· Surface preparation is the most difficult part of a floor system installation. · Blastrac floor or Von-Arx heavy exposed aggregate when necessary, and Diamond Grind around equipment/projections and walls. · pH tests are performed and analyzed to determine required process. · Compromised concrete is repaired, joints are cleaned and edges are keyed in. · Floor is cleaned, then the floor system with the “right” bond profile is developed and applied. |
What About Timing?
· Timing and time restrictions are critical. Installation or repair is often limited to evenings, weekends, holidays or plant shutdown periods. · Product cure times determine the timing of the process. · Once a project begins, the area cannot be used until the project is complete. · Temperatures and humidity of the surrounding environment influence the timing of a project. Hot and dry environments accelerate cure times. |
What About Cleaning?
· Federal will provide detailed instructions on cleaning techniques for a specific floor system. Each system requires correct cleaning methods to maintain its integrity and longevity. · A new floor system must reach full cure prior to the initial scrubbing. |
